U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson is heading to South Texas to join Republican Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz for an event in San Patricio County this Thursday.
The visit brings one of the highest-ranking Republicans in the country into De La Cruz’s district as she campaigns for another term representing Texas’ 15th Congressional District.
Johnson has been a vocal supporter of De La Cruz, previously warning supporters that her race could play an important role in determining whether Republicans maintain control of the U.S. House. De La Cruz first won the historically Democrat-held seat in 2022 and has since become one of the GOP’s most prominent elected officials in South Texas.
De La Cruz is facing Democrat Bobby Pulido, a longtime Tejano singer who won his party’s nomination earlier this year. The race has attracted national attention as Democrats attempt to make gains in South Texas following Republicans’ recent success with Hispanic voters.
The San Patricio County appearance gives De La Cruz another opportunity to bring national Republican leadership directly to voters as the November election approaches.
