In the midst of tensions rising due to illegal Afghan nationals threatening Americans, U.S. spending shows that the federal government under former President Joe Biden gave multiple counties and cities in Texas and Missouri over $47 million for ‘Afghan refugee assistance.’
The grant was in response to the Biden administration’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, where 13 U.S. Service members and more than 100 Afghan citizens were killed by a suicide bomb. An additional 45 servicemembers were also wounded in the terrorist attack. The result of the messy withdrawal led to it being the deadliest day for the U.S. military since 2012.
Since the August 2021 withdrawal, more than 190,000 Afghan nationals have sought asylum in the United States, with approximately 10,500 settling in Texas.
From 2021 to 2023, the Biden administration granted Texas and Missouri $47 million of American taxpayer money to assist refugees from Afghanistan with administering health benefits, including doctor’s visits, specialty visits, and hospitalizations. Other benefits include funding to improve the health of newly arrived Afghan nationals through outreach, education, and support services.
The Biden administration gave $13,725,828 to Harris County, $3,726,960 to Dallas County, $3,186,536 to the City of Austin, $3,083,259 to Bexar County, $2,642,541 to Tarrant County, $1,523,207 to the City of Abilene, $1,408,789 to the City of Amarillo, and $631,682 to the City of Midland; all to support Afghan nationals.
Since allowing Afghan nationals who hold no respect for the United States or its values into the country, multiple attacks have been committed.
On November 26, two National Guardsmen were ambushed and shot in Washington, D.C. One guardsman, Sarah Beckstrom, died from her wounds, and the other, Andrew Wolfe, is in critical condition. The current suspect, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, is an Afghan national and was allowed to legally enter the United States under Humanitarian Parole under the Biden administration.
Additionally, in Texas, an Afghan national, Mohammad Dawood Alokozay, was arrested last week after going on social media telling people he was making a bomb and intended to target the Fort Worth area. Alokozay was allowed into the U.S under the Biden administration’s ‘Operation Allies Welcome.’
According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, more than 5,000 Afghan nationals allowed into the U.S. in 2021 were flagged for national security concerns.
In response to the recent attacks and threats from Afghan nationals, President Donald Trump’s administration is currently reassessing all Afghan nationals who entered the United States during President Biden’s term.
”Any individual who threatens our national security or our citizenry will be subject to removal,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said. “President Trump has already permanently paused the migration of foreign nationals from third-world countries that pose a very high risk to the United States. For too long, past American presidents supported self-destruction, self-destructive immigration policies that allowed foreigners who outright hate our country and have no interest in assimilating into our culture.”
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services department also announced that it would be halting refugee resettlement for all Afghan nationals and has issued new guidance for vetting aliens from 19 high-risk countries, including Afghanistan, Cuba, Iran, and Somalia.
While the Trump administration has halted Afghan nationals from entering and seeking asylum, Texas should take the funds allocated to the counties and cities and return it back to the taxpayers.
