With the March 2026 primaries inching closer, one Republican candidate in the Texas Congressional District 10 race has received a new endorsement from a labor union.
Alexandra del Moral Mealer, who previously ran as the Republican candidate for Harris County Judge in 2022, is running for the Republican nomination for Congressional District TX-09. After announcing in August that she would seek the nomination, she has now announced a new endorsement from a labor union.
On Tuesday, Mealer announced that she received the endorsement from the Seafarers International Union, which represents the United States Merchant Mariners. In the post, she claims that labor unions are key to keeping the economy firing.
“Very proud to have the full support of the Seafarers, representing United States merchant mariners. In TX-09, the port, labor and industry act as a three-legged stool that keep our economy firing,” she wrote.
The Seafarers International Union is the largest North American labor union representing merchant mariners.
Labor unions are known to cause a good deal of problems, including higher labor costs for businesses, which typically leads to higher consumer prices and a decreased ability to promote or reward high-performing individuals in the business and senior employees.
Other problems businesses face with labor unions also include the risk of strikes, which will ultimately disrupt business operations and lead to shortages in goods and services. There is also the potential for adversarial relationships between employers and employees, which can lead to corruption or even bankruptcy for some.
In September, the Texas legislature redrew the Congressional district map, changing District 9 to include portions of Houston, areas of eastern Harris County, and Liberty County. The seat is currently held by radical Democrat Al Green, who is again running for the seat, and who aggressively pushed for President Donald Trump to be impeached in his last term. He was also censured in the U.S. House for interrupting Trump’s State of the Union address in 2024.
In addition to Mealer entering the race, former Republican State Rep. Briscoe Cain was the first to throw his hat in the race.
Cain, who has served House District 128 since 2017, has been a staunch supporter of Conservative values. During the 87th Legislative Session, Cain, who chaired the House Committee on Elections, authored an election integrity bill, which would have increased criminal penalties for voter fraud. He was also responsible for co-authoring legislation to ban sanctuary cities, and supported a $1.5 billion investment in border wall construction to protect Texans from violent criminal illegal aliens.
Cain is currently endorsed by U.S. Reps. Lance Gooden, TX-5, and Pete Sessions, TX-17, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, and Conservative organizations Texas Gun Rights and Texas Right to Life PAC.
The Republican primary will be held on March 3, 2026, with early voting set to begin Tuesday, February 17, 2026. The general election will be held on November 3, 2026.
