President Donald Trump returns to Texas on Wednesday for a midterm rally with Attorney General Ken Paxton, the latest stop in a Republican push to get 2024 voters back to the polls before early voting opens Oct. 19.
The event is at Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio. Doors open at 2:30 p.m. Remarks start at 6 p.m. Senate candidate Ken Paxton has called it a rally “to keep Texas red and keep America First.” Trump is also expected to boost Carlos De La Cruz, the Republican nominee in the 35th Congressional District.
The voter registration deadline was Monday. Early voting runs Oct. 19–30. The mail-in ballot application deadline is Oct. 23. Election Day is Nov. 3, with polls open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Wednesday’s stop follows a Denton appearance where Trump urged support for Paxton and the Republican National Committee’s midterm convention in Dallas. Vice President JD Vance has a separate South Texas event in Harlingen. Party committees and allied super PACs have put tens of millions into Texas Senate and House races since early September, with nearly $175 million in outside Senate advertising in that window.
Paxton is in a close race with Democratic nominee James Talarico for the seat John Cornyn is leaving. Republicans are also defending newly drawn South Texas congressional seats, including De La Cruz’s district and the race involving Eric Flores in the 34th. Trump carried Texas by 14 points in 2024. Bexar County was tighter: he took 44.5% there, his best result in the county.
Republican organizers are treating the rally as a turnout event, not a policy speech. They want to fill the building, collect contacts, and send people toward the early voting window that opens in less than two weeks.
