A new article from Current Revolt reveals that the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District would be hosting the 2026 Islamic Games.
The Islamic Games were set to be held at Colleyville Heritage High School from May 9-10.
The event has multiple Muslim sponsors, but the most notable is CAIR New Jersey. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is a Muslim organization with alleged ties to extremist Islamic terrorist organizations, including Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood.
In 2008, the U.S. v. Holy Land Foundation trial identified CAIR as a potential front for Hamas and uncovered its founder’s participation in Hamas-related meetings. Although CAIR denies any ties to the terrorist group, the FBI suspended all contact with the organization.
Additionally, U.S. Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) has called on Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Billy Long to investigate CAIR for its alleged ties to terrorist organizations.
In Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott designated two Muslim groups, the Muslim Brotherhood and CAIR, as Foreign Terrorist Organizations. The proclamation “authorizes heightened enforcement against both organizations and their affiliates and prohibits them from purchasing or acquiring land in Texas.”
Individuals close to the GCISD school board told Current Revolt that they had no knowledge of the planned event.
Many conservatives in Texas have commented on GCISD’s situation with the Islamic Games.
Texas Railroad Commissioner candidate Bo French responded to the news, saying, “CAIR is the domestic spox for the Muslim Brotherhood, which is a Foreign Terrorist Organization. Are any of our leaders going to put a stop to the ever increasing influence of an ideology that wants to conquer us”
Republican State Rep. Mitch Little, who represents House District 65, which includes Grapevine, questioned how the board of trustees had no knowledge that the planned event was taking place.
“Ask yourself how that happens and what other problems it is causing in the public school system,” Little said.
In fact, according to district policy, the director of facility must approve any non-school use of district facilities—meaning GCISD Director of Facility Use Ryan Martin would have had knowledge of the event.
Republican candidate for House District 98 Armin Mizani also commented on the situation, saying that if elected, he will introduce legislation to ban events sponsored by designated terrorist groups on any public facility in the state.
”Just 4 years ago, Islamic terrorism rocked Colleyville when a Jewish synagogue was held hostage, and now a high school campus just down the road will be the site of an event sponsored by alleged terror supporters. If the Governor of Texas has designated a group as a terrorist organization, then no public facility of any kind should be available to events sponsored by that group,” said Mizani. “As state representative, I will introduce legislation to outlaw events sponsored by designated terror groups from having access to any public facility in Texas. We will not apologize for drawing a line with potential terrorist organizations.”
GCISD has already severed all negotiations with the Islamic Games, telling The Dallas Express that the reservation for their facilities was still in negotiation review.
“This reservation for facility rental was still in negotiation review and not yet finalized. On Jan. 19, GCISD was made aware that an organization listed as a sponsor of the Islamic Games in North Texas has been declared a Terrorist Organization by the Governor of Texas. Texas Government Code §2252.152 states that, ‘[a] governmental entity may not enter into a governmental contract with a company identified as a foreign terrorist organization.’ Thus, GCISD provided notice that it is severing the negotiations for the use of District properties for the 2026 Islamic Games,” said GCISD Executive Director of Communications Nicole Lyons.
In addition to the Colleyville event, the 2026 Islamic Games were also going to be held in Cypress, Texas at Bridgeland High School from October 10-11.
Abbott sent a letter to Cy-Fair ISD officials demanding them to cancel the event and “immediately preserve all records and communications concerning this event.”
The district has yet to say if they have canceled the event, although it is no longer listed on the Islamic Games website.
