Which Texas House Republicans Align Most With Muslim Democrats?

As Republican primary campaigns intensify across Texas, a review of House voting records exposes uncomfortable truths about the governing behavior of some GOP incumbents. An analysis of roll-call votes from the 89th Regular Legislative Session shows that several Republican lawmakers frequently voted in lockstep with Democrat Representatives Salman Bhojani and Suleman Lalani.

While party labels matter during campaign season, legislative voting records matter more. The Texas Republican platform commits Republican lawmakers to defending border security, resisting progressive cultural agendas, and preserving Texas’ historical and constitutional identity. Yet some GOP representatives’ repeated alignment with liberal Democrats on the House floor raises legitimate concerns about whether those commitments are being upheld in practice.

Primary voters deserve transparency. When Republican incumbents consistently side with Democrats on consequential legislation, voters have every right to question whose priorities are being advanced and whether those representatives still reflect the values of the districts they serve.

A review of record votes contained in Texas House Journals revealed some of the candidates running for re-election are those who align the most with Bhojani and Lalani:

  • Ken King 88.23% with Bhojani, 89.62% with Lalani
  • John Lujan 87.41% with Bhojani, 88.25% with Lalani
  • Morgan Meyer 86.71% with Bhojani, 87.3% with Lalani
  • Candy Noble 77.68% with Bhojani, 78.51% with Lalani
  • Janie Lopez 85.74% with Bhojani, 86.26% with Lalani
  • Stan Kitzman 85.33% with Bhojani, 85.83% with Lalani
  • Angelia Orr 80.48% with Bhojani, 81.32% with Lalani
  • Lacey Hull 71.32% with Bhojani, 72.07% with Lalani
  • Charlie Geren 88.36% with Bhojani, 88.85% with Lalani
  • Stan Gerdes 79.52% with Bhojani, 80.48% with Lalani
  • Jay Dean 83.81% with Bhojani, 84.98% with Lalani
  • Cecil Bell 82.2% with Bhojani, 83.2% with Lalani

With the 2026 Republican primary about a month away, voters must be informed as to the voting record of their elected officials.
